Ayoub Houmanna & Ady Sun
From Babylon
to Timbuktu
About the album
The inspiration for creating From Babylon to Timbuktu is Ayoub’s and Ady’s love of Africa and all the ethnic music that travelled across its Middle East, North and West Africa. The album shows how beautifully the oriental melodies of Babylon can merge with the pentatonic scales of Timbuktu. The root topics of this album are love, togetherness, forgiveness, and the freedom we all seek to reach in our lives.
“Thanks to all our friends, artists and musicians who have been with us on this journey. Martin Bala – Ngoni, Noumassa Dembele, Li’nard Jackson, Hafid Ami, Wojciech Grzankowski, Ali Tasuta, Fadi Arinevi and Bura.” – Ayoub Houmanna & Ady Sun.
Ayoub Houmanna & Ady Sun
A deep bond of brotherhood connects these two musicians, who created the album From Babylon to Timbuktu. Their special connection came quickly, in their mutual love for Africa and their cooperation and smooth work on Ayoub’s songs during the Covid-19 pandemic – when Ayoub was in Poland, and Ady Sun was living and recording in his van in Morocco.
Their album describes a physical and spiritual journey through Africa that Ayoub and Ady experienced. It tells stories about destiny, peace, confusion, forgiveness and unity, enriched by traditional songs from Burkina Faso (Kelemani song) and from the Touareg area of Algeria (Maymouna song).
